NEW RELEASE SPOTLIGHT: Depending on the Doctor, by Margaret Madigan @margaretmadiganauthor

DEPENDING ON THE DOCTOR: Nevada Bounty, Book 2

Not only is it my ACTUAL birthday today, but it's the book birthday for my next book, DEPENDING ON THE DOCTOR. Of course, authors love every one of their book babies, but I have a soft spot on my heart for the ladies of Nevada Bounty, and I'm so excited to be able to give them the happily-ever-afters they deserve! Lydia and Emmett are so much fun, but they have to work pretty hard to get their HEA.

Blurb:

Lydia Templeton teaches other people’s children, but dreams of having a home and family of her own. Plain and mousy, she protects her heart and relies on herself, accepting that she may never find a place where she really belongs.

Emmett Wilder served as a Civil War battlefield surgeon. After the war he dosed himself with plenty of alcohol to forget the blood and violence. Unfortunately, drunk doctors make mistakes, and Emmett’s no exception, so now he travels the country selling homemade medicinal tonics and trying to outrun his demons. Keeping to himself he can’t hurt anyone else and he likes it that way.

But Emmett owes a favor to Lydia’s brother, Randall, who decides it’s time to collect. After their mother dies, Randall sends Emmett to Nevada to find Lydia and bring her home to Nebraska. Along the way Lydia and Emmett tangle with train robbers, natives, and an accidental marriage only to find that Randall is the worst enemy of all.

As Lydia journeys across the country with Emmett, she’s forced to face her worst fears and deepest desires, discovering along the way that her real strength comes from Depending on the Doctor.

Excerpt:

Emmett’s worried blue gaze fixed on me.

“What time is it?” I asked. Dusk glowed outside the window. “How long did I sleep?”

He smiled, the humor of it reaching his eyes. “Most of the afternoon, I imagine. I’ve been talking with some folks in the other car and when they decided it was time for supper, I came back to find you sound asleep.”

“Train travel makes me sleepy,” I said.

“It’s ironic, isn’t it? You’re not expending any energy, just sitting, and yet the rhythm of the train lulls most folks to sleep eventually.”

“Are you hungry? We haven’t eaten all day, but I packed some food for us in my satchel.”

“That would be nice, thank you.”

I unpacked a loaf of bread, some cold chicken, and some apples we’d picked and stored from the ranch’s orchard, and we settled into our supper.

I watched him eat. Our interactions had been cautious, even awkward. I was bad enough at conversation when I knew someone, but with a stranger like Emmett, I was completely out of my element. So I just watched him. As a former doctor, his education had been apparent, but he carried himself with the confidence and ease of affluence—both financial and social. I wondered how he’d ended up as a traveling salesman.

My curiosity won out over my social awkwardness. “So Mr. Wilder, how did you end up doing what you do? Why would you give up being a doctor for life on the road? It can’t be easy.”

He’d been concentrating on his apple, studying it after each bite. It couldn’t be that interesting. When I spoke, it startled him, and he looked up at me with a pained and puzzled look in his eyes. Maybe it had been a bad idea to ask about his past. I had a difficult time with judging appropriateness.

“It’s a long story,” he said. “One that wouldn’t interest you.”

I figured in for a penny, in for a pound. I’d already started, I may as well forge ahead.  “We have a long trip ahead of us, so a long story will be perfect. And I’m interested in everything, Mr. Wilder. I’m curious by nature.”

He lifted a brow in what I could only interpret as an acerbic gesture. “I’m sure you are,” he mumbled, just loud enough for me to hear.

He shifted in his seat, facing me more directly. “Let’s just say this: my past isn’t something I like to discuss, and since our association is going to be short I prefer not to sully whatever meager impression I’ve managed to make on you thus far.”

“You’ve made a most honorable impression on me so far. I can’t imagine that you’ve anything in your past that’s so ghastly as to change that impression.”

“Don’t be so sure. You hardly know me.”

“Which is why I asked. So that I may get to know you.”

He stared at me hard, and I felt as if I’d won a point in an ongoing score. He bit his apple and took the time to chew and swallow. I watched him, and he watched me. I imagined him sizing me up, trying to decide how much to tell me, if anything at all. I’d have him at my side for a couple more days, and then he’d be gone, so why not bask in his attention while I could? I had no illusions that his attention was anything other than a man fulfilling his duty. But he seemed not to mind my company, so I allowed myself to indulge in enjoying him.

I was no more immune to an attractive man than any other woman, they just never paid me any mind. At the moment, I had one all to myself. Of course, Emmett was both handsome and intelligent. The perfect—and perfectly lethal—combination, at least where my fragile heart was concerned.

“All you really need to know is that I’ve made my share of mistakes, but I’m doing my best to put them behind me. What about you? What would make you leave a home where you have people who clearly love you, and go running to your brother solely because he asked?”

Well, he’d neatly side-stepped my questions and turned things back on me. Mentally, I awarded him a point in our little game. I glanced at him to find him leaned back, arms stretched out over the backs of the seats. He looked pleased with himself, fully aware that we were doing a verbal dance around each other.

“You’re not the only one with mistakes in your past.”

He chuckled. “That, I seriously doubt. Little Miss Proper?” He shook his head, rejecting my pronouncement.

“No. Not possible.”

His blue eyes twinkled with amusement, and my cheeks heated with a pleasurable blush. I couldn’t help myself. I appreciated his attention. I enjoyed talking to him and, to my surprise, he made me feel playful—something I’d never, ever felt with a man.

“Oh, don’t be so sure, Mr. Wilder. You hardly know me.” I echoed his response, teasing him—perhaps even flirting with him, though I’d never actually flirted so I had no way to gauge my success.

His smile froze, and he swallowed, but it looked more like trying to avoid choking. From the way he looked at me, I thought I’d done something wrong. His hungry expression made no sense to me.

I dropped my gaze to my hands in my lap. I’d allowed myself to get carried away in the moment and humiliated myself. “I’m sorry, that was impertinent of me.”

He made a sound halfway between a cough and a laugh. It wouldn’t do for him to choke on his apple, or his disgust.

“Impertinent?” He said. “That was downright sassy.”

From his expression, I had to assume he thought sassy was good, because he grinned at me like a fool.
I looked down at my lap again, then glanced at him again from under my lashes. “Is sassy good?”

“Yes, it’s good. It’s nice to see you relax some.”

I released the breath I’d been holding, and smiled at him. “I’m not generally sassy. You’re right when you call me proper. I am. I don’t know how to be anything else. Proper was always the best way to be invisible.”

His brows came together. “Why would you ever want to be invisible?”

His voice suggested incredulity, whereas I would have thought the answer was obvious: invisibility meant safety.

“That isn’t a fair question,” I said.

“Why not?”

“Because it requires me to discuss my past, and I thought we’d come to a mutual—if unspoken—agreement that the past is off limits as a topic of conversation.”

“Now I’m intrigued.”

I nearly snorted at the idea. “Trust me, Mr. Wilder, I’m the least intriguing person you’ll ever meet.”

“I don’t believe that for a moment, Lydia.” His voice had taken on a husky quality and I wondered if he’d injured his throat when he choked on the apple.

“Well, it’s the truth. I’m plain and boring, and I’ve lived a plain and boring life.”

“You’re not plain and boring, you just hide behind plain and boring. I saw you with those children. You came alive with them.”

“That’s easy. I adore them. Children are honest. I know what to expect from them.”

“Well, they clearly love you.”

I couldn’t help smiling in the face of his compliment. “It’s the adults I have trouble with. But I’m working on it. At least I’m trying.”

“You seem to be doing fine.”

“You make it easy,” I said, then snapped my mouth shut. Had I really just said that? I cleared my throat. “I’m sorry. That was…”

“Impertinent?” he asked. His sparkling eyes teased me.

“Forward,” I said.

"I like forward," he said, and I blushed so hard I had to look away.

#NewRelease XANDER: Caine Brothers Book 2 by Margaret Madigan @mmadiganauthor

Happy Book Birthday to XANDER: Caine Brothers Book 2!

Series Blurb:

The Caine Brothers: a billionaire, a biker, a fighter, a SEAL, a rock star, and a shifter. Six sexy, in-control alphas who think they have women all figured out...until they each meet their match.

Xander Blurb:

Falling for the daughter of his sworn enemy means making a choice between passion and peace.

When Xander Caine administers a little biker justice to a wife-beating scumbag from the rival Ravagers, he and his fellow Huntsmen walk a fine line between keeping the peace and breaking a long-standing truce.

Gracie Buckner is the daughter of the Ravagers’ president, but she left the biker life a long time ago for college and a career as a photographer. When her sister’s husband beats her yet again, Gracie hires the Huntsmen for due process—the biker way.

Showing up at the Huntsmen’s tavern to confirm the job’s been done turns into an episode of hot—anonymous—sex when Gracie runs into the irresistible Xander. Horrified, Gracie bolts, only to run into him again—leading to more anonymous sex—at a local bike rally. The bigger problem is the instant—and deeper—connection that haunts them both. Once they finally reveal their identities, their fates are sealed.

The Huntsmen-Ravagers feud is the stuff of legends, and finally reaches a tipping point when the rivals learn of Xander and Gracie’s relationship, leading to an epic battle in the middle of the rally. When the dust settles the landscape of both clubs looks vastly different, but Xander and Gracie are determined to stand together in peace and celebrate their star-crossed passion.

Excerpt:

Dude sat on the bed and ran his hands over his mostly shaved head. “So, what kept you so busy you had to miss the pub crawl last night?”

Xander waved a dismissive gesture. “Just some personal stuff. What’s on the agenda today?”

“What’s her name?” Dude waggled his eyebrows suggestively.

“Why do you assume there’s a woman involved?”

“Because if anyone needs to get laid, it’s you. I’m pulling for you, man.”

“Just because I’m more selective about where I plant my dick, doesn’t mean I need to get laid. I do fine, thanks,” Xander said. “Have you had breakfast yet? I’m starved.”

A huge grin spread across Dude’s face. “You did get laid last night.”

Xander rolled his eyes. “You’re a douche, you know that right?”

Someone knocked on the door. Dude stood to answer it, rubbing his hands together. “You have to tell me all about it over breakfast.”

“Did you turn into a girl overnight? We’re not besties. I’m not going to sit over coffee and a donut and talk about sex.”

It turned out to be Chico at the door. He followed Dude back into the room.

“So you admit you had sex,” Dude said.

Chico’s eyes went wide. “Killer got laid? Excellente, amigo.”

“Fuck you both,” Xander said. But he couldn’t help a smirk as Dude grabbed his clothes and headed in the direction of the bathroom.

“Who’s the lucky lady?” Chico asked.

Xander considered brushing them off, because he seriously felt like an idiot talking about his sex life, but it occurred to him he might need help finding her and the guys could be useful.

He shrugged. “I don’t know.”

“A little wham bam thank you ma’am?” Dude asked. He made some lewd gestures to emphasize his point.

Xander gave him a disgusted look. The problem was, he wasn’t too far off, except the implication with a quickie like that was once and done, and he wanted to find this woman again.

“It wasn’t like that.” He paused. “Okay, it was like that, but different.”

Dude raised a skeptical eyebrow. “Different how?”

How could he explain that despite the hot sex, there’d been a deeper connection? It didn’t make sense that in the span of less than a half hour where they said almost nothing to each other, only touching and sliding slick bodies against each other, he’d sensed something more. It sounded ridiculous even to him. They’d laugh at him. These were men for whom one night stands were routine; men for whom love and relationships and the idea of being tied down to one woman amounted to the proverbial ball and chain. Hell, he’d always been one of them. When his brother Hunter got married a few months ago he’d laughed along with the rest of his brothers at the idea of ever doing the same. Yet, maybe he just hadn’t met the right woman for the idea to have merit.

He shook his head. What the hell was he thinking? He’d just met her. They’d had fabulous sex. That was all. He didn’t even know her name. Why would he be thinking about marriage, for God’s sake?

“Nothing. Never mind. It was just fucking hot sex. Best I’ve had in a long time, but I didn’t get her name, so I’m kicking myself because I’d like to hit that again. You know?”

#NewRelease: Making it Right by Margaret Madigan and Merissa McCain @mmadiganauthor @merissamccain

Blurb:

Adrenaline junkie Nina Osborne never misses a hockey game or an MMA fight on TV. After the storage facility she owns is burglarized, one of her favorite MMA fighters, Drew “Juggernaut” Warner, shows up furious and blames her for his stuff being stolen. When Drew returns to apologize and clean up his storage unit, Nina parlays it into a first date and burgeoning relationship, which comes with an introduction to the exhilarating world of live MMA.

Drew has no idea when he brings smart, sassy, and super-sexy Nina into his life that she’ll rock the foundations of his carefully planned-out career. But when she decides that law enforcement isn't doing enough to solve the burglary and takes the investigation into her own hands, protecting her jeopardizes his career. The smart thing to do would be to leave her be. Problem is, while he wasn’t looking Nina took a firm grip on his heart.

Nina’s determined to make things right; however, her investigating leads her into to big trouble, forcing Drew to fight both inside the cage and out if he and Nina are to have any hope of a future together.

Excerpt:

Nick stepped up behind Drew. “I hear you’re incapacitated,” he said, his voice wry.

“Screw you, Parker. You try having Garcia beat the shit out of you and see how incapacitated you are.”

“Next time don’t let him beat the shit out of you.”

Drew flipped him off, but Nina could tell he didn’t mean it by the fact that his hand only got halfway up in the air before it dropped back into his lap.

Nick chuckled. “You probably shouldn’t be out here doing whatever the hell you’re doing.”
Nick looked to Nina for explanation.

She sighed, not wanting to recount the whole damn thing again. “Some assholes robbed the place last night. They broke into Drew’s unit along with a bunch of others. I guess he thought he had to do all the clean up today.”

Nick shook his head, as he grabbed Drew’s arm and slung it over his shoulder, hauling him to a standing position.

“You’re a stubborn asshole,” he said.

“It’s my Mom’s stuff. I had to take care of it.”

“It’ll still be here tomorrow,” Nick said as he stuffed Drew into the passenger seat of his car.

“I don’t know. It’s not really safe. I don’t want to lose anything else.” Drew said.

Nina cringed. She approached Drew’s window while Nick went and locked up Drew’s Jeep.
“I’m so sorry, Drew,” she told him. “I’ll do everything I can to get your things back. Even if I have to look for the burglars myself.”

Drew snorted, “You do that, sweetheart.”

His head flopped back onto the headrest and he closed his eyes. She couldn’t tell if he’d passed out again or just dismissed her.

Nick handed her the Jeep keys and opened his driver’s door. “I’ll have him call you in a few days and we’ll make arrangements to pick up his car. Here are the keys in the meantime, in case you have to move it.”

“Thanks,” she said. “I’ll go ahead and unlock the gate for you. I’m glad you came to pick him up.”

“He’d do the same for me.”

As the gate shut after them, she watched Nick pull out onto the road and drive away. “Don’t worry Drew, I’ll make it right.”

About Merissa:

I love to read, I love to write, I love coffee. Almost every author says this about themselves because these things are often so central to what we do, and what keeps us awake to get it done. But reading that description a few dozen times doesn’t give you much insight to who your author is, not really. All the good stuff comes from where they’ve been, where they’re going, where they want to go and how they want to get here.

So, here are a few things beyond the generic; things that shape who I am.

I grew up in Africa. We didn’t have electricity beyond a limited gasoline generator most of my childhood and didn’t have a television until I was sixteen. So, I filled all that extra time with reading, and scribbling down my own stories.

I’ve now lived in the USA longer than I’ve lived in Africa, although I tend to move every couple years. I’m a nomad at heart. I travel back and forth to Africa at least once a year, and I’ve felt for a very long time like I straddle worlds. Like I can make myself fit in everywhere, but I don’t fully belong anywhere. Maybe that's why my characters are often trying to decide where they fit in the context of others. Why part of their happily ever after is finding a place that claims them, a place where they fully belong.

New Release: CLICK by Anne Conley @anneconley10

Introducing Anne Conley's latest release, Click, Book #3 in the Pierce Securities series.  Now available at Amazon, and other retailers soon!

BLURB

Jake Callahan has a problem, and the only people who can fix it are the guys with Pierce Securities.  Except Jake needs a woman.  Miriam Bartoli will happily play the part of a sexy woman to get what the client needs, especially since playing mom to an office full of alpha males and recent surgery has wreaked havoc on her femininity.  Can she fight her attraction with the target long enough to get what the client needs?  Or will this case of mistaken identity and clicking with the wrong man be the end of her?

EXCERPT

“What’s perfect?”
“This right here.  The stars.  Aren’t they beautiful?”  She glanced over to find Jake staring at her.
“You’re beautiful.”
His hand cupped her neck and he came in close.  “Can I?”
Miriam didn’t respond.  She licked her lips as if they weren’t listening to her brain, which was emphatically yelling at her to stop this.
Jake obviously wasn’t listening to her internal monologue as his lips captured hers in a tentative kiss.
Her brain reminded her he was an asshole at the bar, he’d given her coke yesterday, he was mixed up in Tres Lobos, and he stole from his parents.  It was screaming at her that this was a bad idea.
But at the touch of his lips on hers, the lizard part of her brain—the part which was just made to eat, sleep, and have sex—told her to go for it.  She whimpered into his lips in defeat, and his arms went around her waist, pulling her close as he deepened the kiss.  Jake’s lips were soft, his mouth warm, and the aftershave exquisite.  She didn’t want him to ever let her go.
“Oh my God,” she breathed at him between kisses.  His tongue delved into her mouth, but before she lost herself completely, she pulled back.  “We can’t do this.”
He kissed her again, muttering against her mouth, “Why not?”
“I can think of half a dozen reasons off the top of my head.”
That seemed to stop him, but he didn’t let go of her.  Jake just looked at her quizzically, as if he saw absolutely nothing wrong with the fact they were kissing.  He apparently didn’t realize he had a dual personality and was a complete shit half the time he existed.  He finally looked up, taking a deep breath.  When he refocused on her, his eyes hardened into something wild. Something feral.  Something passionate.  And a little scary.
“Blame it on the stars,” was all he said before his mouth captured hers again.  This kiss was different from the first.  Where the first one was tentative \ and exploratory, this kiss was devouring.  It was like he’d gotten a taste of nirvana and craved more.  It was heady, the way his tongue was mating with hers in a fiery kiss that was quickly undoing her cell by cell.  Her last coherent thought was that Simon was going to kill her.

New Release: HUNTER by Margaret Madigan @mmadiganauthor

  NEW RELEASE

HUNTER is the first book in the new Caine Brothers series of erotic romance novellas by Margaret Madigan. It releases October 19, 2015.

Series Blurb:

The Caine Brothers: A billionaire, a biker, a SEAL, a fighter, a rock star, and a shifter. Six sexy, in-control alphas who think they have women all figured out...until they each  meet their match.

Hunter Blurb:

He had a billion reasons to be happy...until he met her. Then only one reason mattered.

When Hunter Caine takes over the CEO position at his father's multi-billion dollar real estate development company, he also inherits his father's sexy blonde personal assistant, Allison McDowell.

Allison doesn't appreciate being passed around like property, but when she meets Hunter, sparks fly. He's gorgeous, but if he's anything like his misogynistic father, Allison's ready to resign.

Hunter's considering the purchase of a resort in Costa Rica. It's currently a couples-only resort, so he asks Allison to go undercover with him, posing as newlyweds. Allison's skeptical, but it's a free trip to Costa Rica, and Hunter's easy on the eyes, so why not?

Those sparks turn into raging hot flames as Hunter and Allison explore the resort--and each other--and discover that what happens in Costa Rica may or may not actually stay in Costa Rica.

Excerpt:

Hunter went right back into the bathroom to do whatever he intended to do to get that roaring erection under control.  Allison pondered following him and helping him out, one way or another.
Two things stopped her; first, her legs were so weak from that flipping amazing orgasm that she didn’t think she could walk across the room, and secondly, the anticipation of owing him heated her all over again.
While he’d showered the first time, she’d moved all their luggage to the closet. Now, she went to find a dry pair of panties.
She changed them and sat on the bed, waiting for Hunter and remembering his fingers on her and in her. The ghost of his touch still lingered on her skin and in the receding pulse of her orgasm.
If that was just a sample of what they’d do to each other, she didn’t need to sleep on it. To hell with caution, she was ready for more.
But apparently he’d decided they’d stick to the agreement.
It didn’t take long for him to finish in the bathroom, and when he left the bathroom this time, he looked like he could barely contain his triumph. Like by making her come like that he’d proven some primal point. Like he’d achieved a coup, vanquished a rival, swept in and made a hostile takeover. He puffed his chest, threw his shoulders back, and pretty much strutted into the room.
“Kinda proud of yourself there, chief?” she asked.
“Maybe a little. Where’s my suitcase?”
She pointed at the closet. He went in and rummaged, coming out with charcoal slacks and a blue shirt. He laid everything out on the bed, then paused.
“There are four restaurants here. Any idea what you’re hungry for?” she asked.
    “Seriously, you have to ask?”
She looked at him, saw the unfiltered lust in his eyes, and remembered he still hadn’t been properly taken care of. A little bit of waiting wouldn’t hurt Mr. I-get-everything-I-want-when-I-want-it CEO. Might build some character.
“Patience is a virtue, you know.”
    “I don’t like to wait.”
    “Waiting makes everything better.”
    “Bullshit.”
    “You’ll see.”
He rolled his eyes, and she smiled. This weekend could be a lot of fun.
“Are you going to sit there while I dress?” he asked.
    “Do you want me to?”
“Yes. But if you do, we won’t be waiting for tomorrow. If I get naked with you now, you’d better be ready to skip dinner and forget about sleep for most of the night.”
“Well, then. I’ll step out and let you dress. Because I’m starving.”
    “Coward.”
She slid off the bed, laughing at his fake insult. As she passed him on the way to the door, she grabbed the edge of his towel and yanked it off.
He growled and reached for her, but she squealed and ran for the living room. She flopped onto the couch, giggling like a little girl, but when she looked back to the bedroom Hunter stood in the doorway, naked as the day he was born, the single most glorious man she’d ever had the privilege to witness in the nude.
He’d reached up and hooked his fingers over the top of the door jamb, and lounged there casually displaying himself for her perusal. She had no doubt he meant for her to understand what she was missing. Her skin tingled, and her mouth watered in appreciation. She’d need to change her panties again.
Tall, tan, lean, and hung, Hunter made the perfect argument without even saying a word.
“Wow.” How she managed even one coherent word, she had no idea.
    He grinned. “Damn right, wow.”
    “Ego much?”
He shrugged and turned back to the bedroom, giving her a great view of his ass.
Waiting for tomorrow would be a serious challenge, but she didn’t like to lose any more than he did, so she’d wait. Until then, she’d have as much fun teasing him as possible.
